This book was very interesting and revealing. Using Scripture Salza helps people to understand the Catholic Church and where it fits in with the ever increasing forms of Chrsitianity. It proves that the Catholic Church is a continuous line back to Jesus Christ and that Jesus was its founder. While the various Protestant sects have founders such as John Wesley, Henry VIII, and Martin Luther. I hope this book will enlighten some people and help some to at least reappraise their sometimes narrow-minded beliefs concerning the Catholic faith. As a Catholic it is always good for one to be fully aware of why the Church teaches what it does and where these beliefs and teachings come from. This is a good book because it cuts out the extraneous stuff and delves right into the pertinent issues. Since it is popular for regular people to interpret the meanings of Scripture themselves this book helps individuals to realize that Scripture scholars the great doctors of the Church have already interpreted the Bible a thousand years ago. As much as I am content with my Catholic faith and where it originated from I have no animosities to fellow Christians of various sects. We are all followers of Christ and we should all get along without insinuating that either side is a false religion. Peace be with you.

Excellent reference source with supportive scripture and Catechism documentation for readers interested to learn more about the Catholic faith in-depth and what the Protestant faith in general teaches. Explores each view point with deep analysis of both perspectives. Very good read and refer back to this book time and again. Often recommend to others over the years.

John Salza is one of the best Catholic apologetics of all time. His knowledge of Church history and practices, Biblical references, and common sense makes him very difficult, if not impossible to dispute. However, sometimes his dissertations on some subjects can tend to be long winded and cause some disinterest. If a fervent Catholic such as myself feels this way, how do you keep the interest of the Protestant who doesn't take the Catholic church seriously? This isn't exactly the type of book you can whip out on the street to your Protestant adversary and say "See? It's right here, we Catholics are right and you Protestants are wrong". The proper way of utilizing this book is to have an open forum with bibles on the table and refer to the abundance of passages provided. The strongest point is the way Mr Salza proves the Deuterocanonical (of secondary importance) books definately belong in the bible. Protestants refer to these books as the Apocrypha (false). The author proves they are not false. This alone may cause the Protestant to either rethink their position or quickly head for the hills. It may or may not bring about a conversion, but at least now we Catholics can do to Protestants what they have been doing to us. Make them feel stupid and show them it is their beliefs and practices that are not biblical.

If you are a budding Catholic apologist or a questioning protestant, I highly recommend this book. If you have ever asked the question (or had it asked to you)... well, isn't Catholicism just a bunch of weird traditions and smoke and mirrors placed on a loosely Christian frame? You should read this book. It tackles many tough questions posed by Protestants and Catholics who don't know Church (or their own) history. This is also an excellent book for cradle Catholics who are not sure of why certain things are done in the Mass or how historical decisions that affect our faith and worship were made and how it is all Scriptural. This is a very approachable book regardless of your faith background. It is not argumentative but sets out to clear up a great deal of confusion that has grown out of "sola scriptura" and uninformed movements that feel that Catholics not only don't read the Bible, but that the things Catholics do might even be anti-biblical. This is a great little paperback and worth any (inexpensive) penny!

This is a great book for those interested in understanding the scriptural basis for the Catholic faith. It's an extremely easy read and covers the major tenets. I've been approached many times by our non-Catholic Christian brothers and sisters who begin discussions about how the Catholic faith is not biblical (and it doesn't help that I didn't know a lick of scripture), when in fact, as John Salza puts it, the Catholic faith is biblical Christianity "par excellence." Would recommend it to anyone who wants to bridge the gap between the faith they live and the scriptures that support what we do!

This book should be mandatory reading in all catholic schools. It should be taught in eighth grade and again in the senior year. After reading this book young catholics will have the fundamentals to defend their beliefs and debate, with authority, all other religious affiliations.

I have only read portions of it and skimmed through the rest. However so far it appears to be an excellent reference for anyone who wants to check the Catholic faith against Biblical scripture.

An excellent response to those fundamentalist critics of the Catholic Faith who claim a solely biblical basis for Christianity, this is a well-referenced and highly readable apologia of Catholic claims to primacy.

Brian K. Vaughn stopped writing comics for a few years. He returned in 2012 with Saga, which is the story of two star crossed lovers who are trying to make it in their galaxy while trying to (1) raise their child; (2) avoid the war they both once served in on opposite sides and (3) stay ahead of the authorities and bounty hunters that are pursuing them because of what they represent.Fiona Staples art is fantastic and her covers are stunning.Vol. 3 gives us a few plot twists while giving us some deeper character histories of the main figures. It also introduces a few important new ones. This series has deservedly won a few Eisner awards. If you haven't read vol. 1 and 2, go read them and then get this. Whether you are new to comics or an old war horse, I expect you will like it.

Volume 3 of Saga continues the story of star-crossed lovers from enemy peoples caught in an endless, bitter war, with a step up in quality from the first two (already good) volumes. Back are ram-horned Marko and insect-winged Alana, along with their as-dangerous-as-an-idea child, Marko’s mother, and a ghost babysitter with no lower body; freelancer The Will and Marko’s ex-fiancée Gwendolyn, along with a rescued child sex slave and a Lying Cat; and the TV-headed prince of the robot kingdom. Newcomers include a pair of blue and green tabloid reporters and the writer D. Oswald Heist, briefly introduced at the end of the last volume.Things start off slow. We step back to see what happens before the robot prince arrives at Quietus, The Will et al. are temporarily sidelined on a planet more dangerous than it appears while he gets his ship repaired, and we get a new storyline of the tabloid reporters looking into Alana’s story. It’s good stuff in the interim, though (more on that in a bit), and things come to a head and get action packed as everyone converges toward the end of the volume.Saga has always had two central threads running through it: parenthood and war. And it has always dealt with the former much better than the latter. The addition of Heist who, along with Marko’s mother, acts as a wise, grandparently foil to Marko and Alana’s young person’s foolishness, is welcome. And this volume thankfully rarely ruminates on war (with one notable exception, which makes up for it with utter ridiculousness).

Resisting the temptation to let the first two volumes of world-building simply put these rich characters on"astro-physiological" autopilot, Brian K Vaughan and Fiona Staples use Volume 3 of SAGA show our Space Opera Family got through some deeply consequential growing pains. In Chapter 13, Alana tells her disapproving step-mother Klara, "I want to do whatever's best for Hazel." This mandate drives the narrative. In Chapter 14, our journalists learn more about Alana's background from Even, her classmate and step-mother, "She joined the armed forces a few months after I moved in," because her dad was Robbing The Cradle. In Chapter 15, still guests at the author's house, Izabel tells Alana, "It's Marko. He's laughing," so his grief over his father's death is passing. Alana's self-assessment before returning to the job market is, "I'm a dishonorably discharged f*** up with zero marketable skills. Anything I've ever made has turned out like complete s***." In Chapter 16, Alana tries to convince Marko she's better off raising Hazel than working an outside job, "Besides, wouldn't you go insane being a stay-at-home dad all day?" SAGA is aware of who wears the pants in our Space Opera family, and it ain't Marko. In Chapter 17, Hazel points out, "Here's the thing, everybody loves babies... but only in very, VERY small doses," and this applies to immature behavior as well. Our Space Opera Family is learning that hard choices are required to remain fugitives in a hostile environment: their idyll is running out of time. In Chapter 18, Marko's ex-fiance Gwendolyn tells him, "The man I love has been hurt, and I need your help to make him whole again." Compromises ensue. SAGA ends this arc with Hazel standing on her own two feet with Alana about to exit the rocket ship; their idyll is over so they are off to infinity... and beyond :D
