Bought this as a gift from my son to my husband for his birthday. One of our family dreams is to travel to as many baseball stadiums as possible, and this book went over as a huge hit, even with my toddler (who was proud of "picking it out"). It's jam-packed with "insider" information and suggestions about what to eat and what not to, where to park (this latest addition was pretty on-the-spot with pricing info, etc), where to buy tickets and where to sit, and much more. It's a wonderful resource that will help us plan future trips. My only gripe is that I wish it had a sprinkling of color photos, and that's not just Mom talking for her son, but I think it would enhance reader experience. My husband, however, who's not one for reading much unless it's about sports or trivia, has really eaten this up. He keeps it on his desk, so I am very satisfied with this buy and would purchase future editions again.

My father has recently embarked on a bucket list. See a game at every mlb stadium. This was the perfect gift. The attention to detail is outstanding. History, stadium info, distance to the closest 3 stadiums, info on food and lodging near by. Everything you could need when traveling to a ball park. I'm sure as years pass it will become less useful with park and city changes. But for now this is exactly what he needs. Highly recommend for anyone that enjoys seeing baseball games as they travel. Now I just need one for the NBA.

My family has visited over 20 baseball parks since the first edition of this book was published, so I was thrilled to see that an updated version of it was available. The information given in the book is very VERY useful when planning a trip to a park you've never been to, starting with what sections have the best seats (and which sections to avoid) when purchasing tickets, how to get there (including public transportation options), where to park if you drive, what foods to try (or avoid) while at the game, and especially all the information about the features in and around the ballpark. The true baseball fanatic will enjoy the historical information for each ballpark/team. It's enjoyable to read, in no way is it a dry book of facts. I highly recommend it for any fan planning a trip to a baseball park for a major league game.

Wanted to get something to prep for a round-the-country baseball summer. This is a pretty good guide, complete with scalper info, food reviews on the parks and the local areas and advice on seating for all sections of the ballparks. It is somewhat out of date, since there is info on Montreal but not Washington and the Florida info is old as well. Basically any ballpark newer than 2003 isn't in here. Other than that a good resource and even fun to read.Update: After hearing from co-author Josh Pahigian about the new edition that came out months before Amazon sold me the old version, I was able to get Amazon to upgrade my copy. Very happy with the revised edition and have raised my rating to five stars. There just isn't another good source about seating, food and the surrounding areas of strange ballparks out there.One minor quibble for Josh and Kevin: The first Japanese-born player in the major leagues was not Hideo Nomo, but Pitcher Masanori Murakami,who played for the SF Giants in 1964-65. And the first full-time starting position player from Japan was Dave Roberts who was born on Okinawa. Roberts played for the Indians, Dodgers, Red Sox, Padres and Giants.

Awesome book. I bought it as a gift and started to read it. it was so good I bought a copy for myself. The insights into each city and the local baseball history and culture is unsurpassed.A must read for any true fan that is thinking about going to a different ballpark.I am mapping out my summer trip now!

Several years ago my wife and I decided to go on a baseball road trip, and we purchased the first edition of this book along with several other baseball road trip books. It wasn't very long when this book was completely battered and warn and the other books spent most of their time in the trunk of our car. This basically has everything you will want in a baseball road trip book, it reviews the seats, beer, food (even trademark food like Walleye on a Stick at Target Field and Rocky Mountain Oysters at Coors field), hot dogs, parking, where to buy tickets from scalpers, stadium and team history, bars and restaurants in the area, and other attractions in the area. Personally, I can't imagine visiting a new baseball stadium without first reading their section on it, and subsequently following their advice to get the most out of the trip. In addition, the authors have a great sense of humor which makes every section an enjoyable read. While I now have two young daughters and my stadium touring is currently on hiatus for a few more years, I still purchased the latest edition because it is such a great read.If you are looking to visit any MLB Stadium and you are searching for a guide book, this is the one that you need.

This was a Christmas gift for my step-dad, who visits at least one new ballpark a year when the Pirates, our home team, are playing. He loves trivia and always asks us questions like: "what food is this city famous for?" This book answers all of those questions in an easy-to-read list format along with a witty commentary-style article about each ballpark, which provides him with even more trivia ammo with which to stump us. He also makes sure to read about the specific ballpark to which he is going when he is making his itinerary for the trip. I hear about how great this book is at least once a month, which is saying something since it's 5 months past Christmas. Great read, thanks for the information Josh and Kevin!

First, I won't spoil the story, but I hated the ending. And not only because it was a pound of bitter and a dash of sweet. The author keep me reading out of fascination at the main character's resolve and methodical planning--the execution of that plot is masterful. The problem is the only thing I found I came to care about the author destroys with the ending, and it seemed completely forced and unmotivated. The love interest goes from a complex character to a shallow Hollywood trope just so the main character doesn't "get away with it". I defend this opinion because it's written in third person omniscient--we know her thoughts page after page, nothing is hidden. I could list many details of why, like the relationship with her father for instance, but I promised to not ruin the story. I simply expect more for my time spent than legal cleverness, but if you don't then the machinations are interesting.

I cannot give a full opinion of this novel at this time, as I have just started on it. Thus far, as my reading have progressed, I am enjoying the way the story unfolds. No dull moment, particularly after the subject met his big setback, where I had paused. I am also reading A Time to Kill concurrently. This works for me, odd as it may sound to other readers. There are at least 8 titles on my desk and w/ a batch more coming, I either keep up or left em sit idly. For those who have been ignoring The Partner for whatever reasons, have another look..Grisham is a natural storyteller. • A novel is nothing but a mode to provide entertainment. Let the 'author/book' critics delight hearing themselves - they need to earn a living. Buy what serves your fancy, listen to your drummer. • I intend to update my comments, for those interested.

While I'm an avid reader of John Grisham, this book was quite disappointing. I thought it was going along well and then the wrap up at the end of the book left much to be desired. It was terrible. The pieces didn't come together or make any sense and then the reader is left questioning the reason of it all.I'm very disappointed in this book. It was like he had someone come in and finish it for him who hadn't even read the book. Very disappointed.

I enjoy John Grisham's books. Having a brother in law who is a lawyer helps me appreciate his legal background even more.This book focuses on a lawyer who has stolen $90 million dollars from his former firm and is captured hiding in Brazil. But why did he do it? Why would a partner steal the money and run? The story unfolds from there set in Biloxi, Mississippi.Overall this was a good read. The very ending was somewhat tough but a good read nonetheless.

I loved this novel from beginning to end but the ending made me want to scream!! I won't give it away but I started suspecting something fishy about 2/3 way through. But regardless, a great read, as John Grisham novels always are. Can't believe I hadn't read it yet! Worth your time. Couldn't stop reading, as usual.

In my reviews I don't tell anything about the story if I can help it. I just like to say what I liked or disliked, and with this book there isn't much to criticize. Probably one of Grisham's best. I would highly recommend this novel. I could feel the outcome as it drew nearer and as I feared , the climax was disappointing; for me anyway. I would recommend reading this story just for the ending. You may be surprised.

I really debated how to star this review. I liked this book, and read it very quickly. I was waiting for the Grisham twist at the end of the book, and did figure it out. If it had ended there, I would have probably given it 4 or 5 stars. But, he seemed to feel he needed to add a second one that was disappointing and unneeded. Overall, the book was too good not to recommend, but you'll have to judge the ending for yourself.

This legal thriller reads more like a detective novel where the "hero" is a flawed, compromised character who plots his schemes with masterly precision and has an elaborate design for a life of untold wealth and comfort if all goes well. Danilo Silva/Patrick Lanigan, chameleon par excellence, fleeces his law firm of $90 million then conceals the fortune via elaborate deposit-and-withdrawal transactions in various bank accounts around the world. Only Lanigan and his partner, an attractive Brazilian attorney, know where the money is, which is also being sought by the F.B.I and unsavory professionals hired by his former colleagues. The story has several twists and turns, implausible situations and unsympathetic characters but the novel has a flavor all its own and is suspenseful to the end. The payoff, in its own way, is just and deserved, and Grisham has a solid winner with this one. The unabridged audiobook is expertly narrated by Frank Muller.

About the Author

Elly Lonon, a member of the Liberal Elite herself, is still recovering from growing up in a red state. Born and raised in North Carolina, she moved to Manhattan for graduate school and to pursue a career in the music business. Weary from consistent marginalization by the patriarchy, she left both the industry and NYC, opting to work for a not-for-profit and moving to the suburbs of Jersey where living near a Superfund site promptly gave her cancer. My book group recently reviewed Amongst The Liberal Elite and it was one of the best sessions in our 20 year history. Initially I was skeptical discussing a graphic novel but this was the perfect medium for this topic. I both loved and related so well to Alex and Michael, enjoying the author's perspective on the hipster generation's (and my) attitudes. Very funny, but never mean, I recommend this book without reservation. Get yerself a copy asap!

I needed this laugh... and I did laugh. Who takes a humor column from McSweeney's and turns it into a GRAPHIC NOVEL?!! These geniuses. The format works. The Insta-ing is spot-on. It's a little too close to home in places, but that is the point of satire- and the nearness to the truth (the over-the-topness!) is why it's funny.

I really enjoyed this snort-laugh-inducing satire. From the clever quips to the skillful illustrations, it was a great reading experience. Alex and Michael really came off the page and grew for me from the start. They are both relatable and ridiculous, which makes them endearing. It’s a great reminder that, while we should take the issues and goings-on in our political climate very seriously, we should not take ourselves too seriously.I would recommend this to any Resister who loves good satire, and have given copies as gifts to friends and family (they loved it!).

I really enjoyed this book. I've never read a graphic novel before, and I found it heartfelt, the characters were relatable, and the graphics were great! I appreciate how Elly created this lovable yet flawed, caring, thoughtful, funny and sincere couple who are doing their damndest to sort out how to #resist our current sociopolitical fiasco.

I had to quit politics before I lost my mind. Maybe I’ll be back in 2020, but until then, Amongst The Liberal Elite will be the only politics-adjacent book I will read. Over and over again. In fact, I highly recommend you gift this to eye-rolling right leaners like my 73 year old dad. He also took a selfie of himself and his insulin pump last Wednesday and declared that Hump Day is Pump Day in his eyes. So he has a sense of humor and adored this book as well. Read it and weep! With laughter of course.

World histories are extremely difficult to do because it requires the historian to make broad, sweeping assertions about many different cultures concerning which the historian can never be an expert in each. As a specialist in Islam, I for one was sometimes left deeply dissatisfied by some of the sections focusing on Islam. This, in turn, made me question the nature of the analyses on areas concerning which I have no indepth knowledge such as in Spanish and Portugese empires.This being said, however, the general outline presented in the book as a tendency of colonial cultures with regard to legal institutions (from multi-centric and informal to strictly state-centered and enforced with centralized compulsion) is widely corroborated and extremely helpful in grasping the evolution and centrality of legal institutions in the formation of these colonialial and, subsequently, post-colonial cutlures. The argument, therefore, makes great strides in supplementing merely economic historical accounts, such as dependency theory a la Wallerstein, with studies of colonial institutions as such and not as a mere apparatus of economic ideologies.

I found this book to be extraordinary -- it changed my thinking about jurisdictional conflicts in colonial societies. Benton has adroitly analyzed the impact of jurisdictional tensions on global legal regimes. A must-read for legal historians and others in the field.

This is a good read for an alternative understanding of World History's historiography. Not an easy read as a legal history, but interesting.
