I've known Gin, the author for a couple of years now, having met her in the intermittent fasting groups on Facebook. I've been intermittently fasting for over two years now, having dropped 220 lbs in the first 17 months, and maintaining 190 of it over the past year. Gin is so well read on this topic, and I've always looked to her for troubleshooting ideas and encouragement when I've had troubles. Her wisdom has been absolutely invaluable. I wouldn't have made it through some of my harder times so swiftly if it weren't for her sage advice. I'm so happy to see her finally sharing that same wisdom with the world.The book is wonderful! Written in such a way that anyone can understand the basic science behind intermittent fasting, this book explains it all without the textbook feel. Easy and light enough to read in one evening, like I did, and inspiring at the same time. This book is a great beginner's guide to intermittently fasting for weight loss. And I'll tell you from my own experience, once you try intermittent fasting earnestly, you'll wonder why more people aren't doing it!~Nicole S. lost 220 lbs with IF in 17 months

I ordered this book after reading raving reviews of a plan that allows you to eat whatever you want, provided you do so in OMAD (one meal a day). Since I'd been following a low carb diet over a year, often adhering to OMAD (but not eating anything I wanted) and combining my efforts with IF (intermittent fasting), I had to wonder if I was missing something since this book says you can eat whatever you want during that one meal. Well, okay, after a year or more of NO sugar and few carbs, this book was very enticing, as I'd still like to eat some ice cream or pie now and then!Though the book can be inspiring as far as a weight loss success story, I quickly found myself pitying a lot of readers that would clearly become frustrated if they've not read Obesity Code by Jason Fung prior to reading this book. While the author references Obesity Code and Jason Fung, as well as his intermittent fasting book, (among several other books/authors) my takeaway was that the author of this book was first able to learn the science behind why we gain weight (via Jason Fung and others) while formulating her own plan to lose the weight she wanted to lose. For the author, this meant she would delay certain foods (especially sugary treats) while on her journey of weight loss, but she would still enjoy some of those treats at her OMAD. While this concept worked for her and may work for others, those who are severely insulin resistant may not get away with such a concept, as insulin is the hormonal response that has caused weight issues in the majority of people in first place (this is all explained in Obesity Code). Many, many people need to completely ban sugar and severly reduce carbs in order to be successful, (even with OMAD and intermittment fasting), in order to expect good results such as weight loss, lower A1C, etc. While most people panic when faced with eliminating sugar and severly lowering carbs, once you do you soon find yourself freed from the chains of food/diet/weight loss/weight gain/ and the up and down cycle so many have battled for years on end. It is very freeing. You do begin to understand that our bodies are compromised (fattened up) based on a hormonal response that we ourselves are triggering when we ingest foods that cause a rise in insulin. This knowledge (light bulb moment) came about in my own life as I read Obesity Code. That book was life changing for me, as the science behind obesity is thoroughly explained. The antiquated "calories in/calories out," as well as "eat less/move more" theories are debunked once we allow our brains to accept the fact that FAT STORAGE is regulated by insulin! Jason Fung has turned the obesity problem on its head and by doing so, many people are now reaping the fabulous results of his efforts. Obviously, the author of this book also reaped the rewards of Jason Fung's work, as she notes in her book, though she spun it in a manner that includes carbs and sugar, which worked for her.Admittedly, I was skeptical that I could follow the same advice, yet hopeful. I was accustomed to OMAD, so I tried her concept. I kept carbs low, but added dessert with real sugar with that meal. I tried it for five days. My blood sugars--that I had been so proud of as I followed low carb/no sugar--began to increase. I didn't like the numbers I was seeing. At the end of the five days, I had gained four pounds. When I went to the FB group, I noticed this problematic issue has been presented many times. Gin explains that one should "delay" those foods we consider as treats until a time that our weight has come under control, thus the name of the book, "Delay, don't deny." When I saw that response at the group, I have to admit, I felt a little duped. The group also advises to "trust the process" and even "expect some weight gain" as your body adjusts. I was not willing to follow that advice, as I didn't want to GAIN, nor did I want my A1C results to be affected by the rise in blood sugars. I also knew I simply felt better by restricting carbs and eliminating sugar. For me, (speaking for my own body/experience) I have learned that SUGAR in any form initiates an overwhelming urge for more, more, more. Those five OMAD, which included desserts, left me thinking about and wanthing MORE dessert! When I follow a low carb/no sugar plan, I never crave desserts or even think about food until true hunger comes. I'm happy for the author and those that can follow such a plan, but many who are insulin resistant will find this concept to be one of frustration. Granted, the author admits she loves sugar, thus I give her credit for adapting the IF lifestyle to one where she was able to lose weight while holding on to that love of sugar.I will say this book can inspire anyone to take control of their health, as anyone that battles weight enjoys seeing the sucess of someone that has tackled their own problem. However, to gain knowledge (knowledge is power) as to why you're fat to begin with, Obesity Code is a must read.

Like Gin, I’ve read many “diet” books and have tried many “diets” over the years. Yo-Yo would have been an appropriate nickname for me. Then, divine intervention led me to Jason Fung’s The Obesity Code. I FINALLY understood the hormonal impact on weight and wanted to try intermittent fasting (IF) to see if it made a difference. I then needed to know HOW to fast. That’s where Gin came in. I learned how to Delay, Don’t Deny and feel empowered. When I started my journey I also decided to eat cleaner. I completely stopped eating processed sugar, artificial sweetener and heavily processed food. IF does NOT require that.....it was my choice. ALL cravings were gone in 4 days and I felt WONDERFUL! Now to the best part of this review........I’ve lost 42 pounds since January 22, 2018 with NO sagging skin. My skin looks great! OMGEEEEEE! I finally feel like a human being around food. All cravings are still gone and I now make healthy fat, healthy protein, low carb choices. I know you probably won’t believe this, but I wake feeling smaller every day......inches are disappearing. I weigh the same day/time each week just because I’m so excited! Buy this book. Listen to Gin. You’ll need to tweak your “eating window’ now and then for occasions in your life, but IF will change your relationship with food forever and you’ll feel TERRIFIC! 👍

This book on fasting by Gin Stephens is an excellent addition to the growing literature on the benefits of IF. It is a clear, succinct, and well-written introduction to the practice of intermittent fasting. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone who is considering trying this way of life. Things I particularly liked:* very clear explanation of the role of insulin and the reasons fasting is the way to go* excellent, short explanation of different methods of IF. I wish I had had these when I first started exploring fasting.* great chapter on OMAD (One Meal A Day) - as someone who is aspiring to this form of fasting, this was most helpful in my own situation. What does it really mean? What sort of flexibility is there? I think this would be very helpful to anyone thinking about OMAD. Gin gives real-world examples from her own journey that I found very encouraging. What will I do on my cruise in May?? Now I know.* loved the chapter on what to eat. Very practical reflections on whether, if or when to do low carb, etc.* great personal testimonials from people who have done itHighly recommended.

I purchased the kindle version for my iPad/ iPhone. I needed the information in the ICU.The author does a great job in explaining difficult respiratory physiology in a organized way.I use this book on a daily basis. Even better as a kindle format, no ,ore heavy books to shove in my pocket!

Used this during my intern year for ICU. HIGHLY recommend this book. It makes ventilation quite easy. Goes over most common vent settings, allowing you to advance after you have the basics. This is all you really need for vents. Quick read, short chapters, easy to understand. Don't think twice and get this book!!!

About the Author

Born in Peterborough, UK, Kerry Fisher studied French and Italian at Bath University, followed by several years working as an English teacher in Corsica and Spain before topping the dizzying heights of holiday rep and grape picker in Tuscany. I am a snotty English major with a few advanced degrees, hooked on science fiction and the headier type of literature. I needed an audible book for the car and grabbed this one because it was the first on the list. I could have driven across country without stopping. Fantastic characterization, intriguing plot, really a perfect summer read and the audible narrator is delightful. I have already purchased another book by Kerry Fisher for my next long car journey.

I had yet to find a book I enjoyed as much as " Girl on a train" until now. I can"t put it down and will be sorry when it ends.

This book was really well written and enjoyable. It did mention in the reviews that she was similar to Liane Moriarty, who I'm a big fan of. Unfortunately, I came across this book while I was browsing thrillers. This book is categorized as a thriller, but it is not a thriller. At all. It's a wonderful story about family that is very emotionally charged, but it's not in any way a thriller. Anyone specifically looking for a thriller will be disappointed by this book.

The Silent Wife is the story of two women who at the beginning are only connected by the men they have married. In time, they become friends and later on each other's support system.The book begins with Maggie getting married to Nico Farinelli. She knows his mother Anna disapproves of her but she has fallen in love with him. After so many broken relationships, she has finally found a man she can count on and who thinks of her son Sam as family. Nico also has a daughter from his first marriage, Francesca. Maggie hopes to become a friend to her.Lara is married to Massimo, Nico's brother and they have one child, Sandro. Lara's also the second wife. Massimo divorced Dawn when she refused to have children. Lara couldn't believe when Massimo started courting her and soon he makes her forget all her reservations but after the wedding everything changes.There were so many things I like about the story. Lara and Maggie were both strong in their own way. They both had to deal with Nico and Massimo's mother Anna. She was not an easy person to like. She was always looking for ways to offend the "new wives". As the matriarch of the family, she made sure both sons lived in the same street as her. She even has a key to enter their homes uninvited.Not only did Maggie have to deal with Anna but with her teenage step-daughter, Francesca who was trying very hard to make Maggie feel like an outsider. Lara's life was not any easier. Hers was a hotter hell.These women were both so different but life brought them together. They both were dealing with secrets that could affect their whole family's dynamic. I rooted for both of them to make it.The Silent Wife is a very entertaining tale full of emotion, heartache, complicated relationships, love and friendship. This book was completely out of the range I normally read but it was wonderful. A family always has problems and usually we all have our secrets. Yet being a step parent you always walk a fine line yet give to where at times you wonder if it is worth it. When I was not reading this book, I was thinking about it! I put myself in all their places and I just HAD to get back to reading to see what was going to happen. Kerry Fisher did a beautiful job on making you feel as if you were part of this extended family and now I'm sad I am finished .

The topic of abuse that is feared and hidden behind the walls of a home is not a pleasant, "feel-good" topic, but I am pleased to know that this difficult topic is making its way into novels. The two women who have married brothers seem unlikely to form a bond or friendship. However, as more and more secrets are revealed, they begin to help one another manage life, though their challenges are very different. Thank you for writing about a topic that needs to see more light of day, with an occasional phrase or sentence that made me smile.

I think it was a great summer read. Not what I usually pick, but I was delighted with it. It dragged a little at the beginning but then as the drama increased, I looked forward to my reading time more and more. I could definately see myself in one of the characters, and could imagine the turmoil of all the family feelings. I liked the way she wrote it from both the 2 womans prospective. I think its well worth your time and enjoyment.

The language is a bit difficult. Lots of British slang and nuances made it difficult to follow. And the promised twist was nothing as promised. There was no twist at all. Predictable, all the way to the end. I was disappointed and a bit mad at the time and money wasted. It was a big promise to make, and the only one that led me to buy this book. I don’t feel as if there’s anything I could honestly recommend to anyone considering this as a purchase. All I can say is “don’t bother”.

I breezed through this book within a week and took a lot away from it. I was skeptical that I needed more math in my poker toolkit, but Hardin convinced me otherwise. Fantastic book.
