This book is split up into the 6 sections that you will be tested on within the national registry test. Each section contains anywhere from 80 to 150 questions with answers and explanations as to why they are the correct answers. At the end of the book there is a 120 question practice test that includes questions from all of the sections. All questions are multiple choice with 4 possible answers. The book gives you answer sheets to fill out as you take the test, however I prefer to just do my own answer sheet so that I can retake the tests if I need to. My advice is to make sure you get a copy of this book that has the CD-ROM included. The CD-ROM has 2 additional 120 question practice tests in which you can do a "timed" or a "practice" format. The ONLY reason why this product isn't a 5 star rating is that the practice tests on the CD-ROM only gives you the number of questions answered correctly with a percentage. It doesn't break it down into sections as the national registry does, so you really don't know if you passed all of the sections or not, or which sections you failed. it also has a section in the front of the book to help prepare you for the national registry test by giving tips studying, reading questions, and your daily routine for the day before, during, and following the test. It also explains how the testing is administered and how the test "works." I can't compare this 100% to the national registry test as I have yet to take it, however 2 fellow employees who have taken it recently said the questions within this book are very similar to the types of questions you would find on the national registry testing. All in all, I highly recommend this book to anyone who is going to be taking the paramedic national registry test.
This text was an excellent review of what I see working as a paramedic in an urban setting in New Jersey. I utilized it for review of the NREMT-P which I had let lapse several years ago (bad idea on my part). What I noticed, however, was the actual questions on the test were different compared to the type of questions presented in this book. I went through every chapter in this book and completed both CD tests as well and scored in the mid 90% each time. The NREMT exam asked questions relating to very specific OB-GYN, MCI, Trauma and medication classifications that I didn't see in this text. My advice to the Medic/Medic student is utilize this book and regarding the areas of care that are not commonly seen in your service region and expand on those with other quality resources. I passed first time at 80 questions so I am not complaining. Excellent text...utilize to identify weak areas and then expand on each area beyond this text. Good luck!
Passed national registry on the first try, and the questions in the test are a lot like the ones on the test great study guide
I bought this book because it was recommended to me from another paramedic that I know. I went through the questions and at the end of each section is an answer key. Not only does it tell you the correct answer and why it's correct, it tells you why all the other answers aren't correct or aren't the best fit answer to the question. Really gets you in the right state of mind for the test! Couldn't think of a better study guide. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!
I tried several review books before my NREMT Paramedic test and this was by far the most helpful.A lot of information, and the questions are truly NREMT style. I took the tests, and then evaluated my wrong answers and studied them. This works well with using online random generated tests too.I've bought this book for a couple of friends, and it's my top recommendation.I passed first time...
The book was revised in 2008 shortly after the implimentation of the CAT (Computer Adaptive Testing). I like the format of the book, it has tests for each section of the test (Airway, Cardiology, etc). The problem is that in the field of Paramedicine treatments change rapidly as new research improves the quality of care, especially in the area of cardiology. That being said a lot of the drug doses and sequences in the cardiology section are no longer correct. You can still learn a lot from this book, just do not take the answers as Gospel, instead use the questions and go find the right answers. The explanation of the Computer Adaptive Test Process in the beginning of the book is great, it really lays out the process and makes it crystal clear.
